Women’s Heart Health Week – Go Red!

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011 BY Celia

Celia-HHave you heard the news?  February 1-7 is National Women’s Heart Health Week!

~ Why is this such a big deal?
Well, according to the American Heart Association, “Cardiovascular disease claimed the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year, yet women were not paying attention. In fact, many even dismissed it as an “older man’s disease.” To dispel the myths and raise awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of women, the American Heart Association created Go Red For Women – a passionate, emotional, social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health.” What a great initiative to promote heart healthiness!

~ How can you participate?
There are many ways to get involved with the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Program!  They have a few ideas listed on their website including Taking Legislative Action and Sharing Your Stories.  A few major department stores  are donating the proceeds of select items to the AHA (click here to see more information).

My favorite way to show support would have to be Celebrating Wear Red Day which is Friday, February 4, 2011.  This one is very simple to do, simply wear red tomorrow!!  When someone asks “why is everyone wearing red?”, you can help them out - word of mouth is the best form of awareness. For more information, click below:

Let’s all get together and promote Women’s Heart Health this week and beyond!  We should all strive to be “Heart Healthy at any age”.  Until next time…
