Repel the bad and get the goods in our Antimicrobial Scrubs

Thursday, June 24th, 2010 BY Emma

Emma-HThreats to health are everywhere.  Many times things that threaten our health  are invisible to us.  How can we protect ourselves from these unseen threats that seem to pop up all the time? Recently we had the H1N1 that made the news and now according to an online report from Yahoo news, there is a new airborne fungus that threatens to spread throughout the northwest.  Experts are baffled at how it is spreading and what they can do to stop it.  The healthcare profession knows better than anyone that preventing the spread of airborne pathogens is the key to keeping people healthy.  This is especially true in a hospital setting.  That’s why we carry antimicrobial scrubs. These medical uniforms are  designed to prevent professionals from “taking their work home with them!

Antimicrobial scrubs are designed to make sure that medical staff themselves do no harm.  The great part is these scrubs do not have to  be detrimental to your fashion sense!  These hard-working scrubs are as fashion-forward as they are resistant to microbes.

Scrubs including the Eco-friendly dNh Do No Harm ™ Exploded Floral print scrub top look as great as they work.

* Do No Harm – The World’s Most Responsible Scrubs

Should you wear your uniforms home from work, or change before? Sound off on your opinion!

Thursday, April 29th, 2010 BY Brie

Brie-HThe topic of cross-contamination and uniforms is not a new one, but can foster a very heated debate. I have recently heard a discussion regarding a local hospital’s rules for certain departments to be required to only wear their uniforms at work, with disciplinary action taken if they are seen outside of the department, as well as outside of the hospital, in their department uniform. Medical professionals are then required to wear 1 set of scrubs to work, change into their department uniform scrubs, and then change back once they complete their shift to go home. The intention of the rule is to prevent cross-contamination from bacteria, germs and what not passed along through contact with clothing. What do you think about this rule? Do you work in departments/ offices/ hospitals with similar regulations? What are your workplaces doing in regards to preventing the spread of disease and illness through fabrics and clothing?

Many uniform companies have heard the concerns of the industry and have answered with high tech fabrics with antimicrobial finishes. Landau’s Bioshield® as well as the Do No Harm line are two offered by Scrubs & Beyond with very impressive antibacterial finishes.

The Bioshield® line brings an advanced line of protection with the durability and comfort Landau is famous for. The Bioshield® finish is EPA Registered and USDA approved. The active ingredient in the treatment forms a positively charged polymer which chemically bonds to the fabric and acts like a bed of microscopic spikes. The spikes pierce the cell walls of microbes which may come into contact with the garments. Because Bioshield® is a mechanical process, not a poison it does not contain toxins, and is quite environmentally friendly. There is not a potential for resistance to be built to the finish, or for creating a “superbug”. The finish lasts the life of the garment with no special laundering conditions required. Simply wash and wear and you will get the benefits of this amazing product. Bioshield® is effective against many bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, E coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, and various Salmonella strains. An added benefit of the Bioshield® finish is that it also is resistant to mold, mildew, algae, and yeast growth. Click HERE to see more technical information regarding the Bioshield® finish.

sheildThe Bioshield® line consists of both ladies and unisex styles as well as jackets and lab coats, all at a great price.

Do No Harm is anther line that contains an antimicrobial finish, however, this line uses the SmartSilver finish to fight germs. The SmartSilver finish forms a permanent bond to the fabric and will last the life of the garment. It will not wash off, wear off, nor will it compromise the softness, or performance of the fabric it is applied to. SmartSilver is created from re-claimed silver sources like discarded film to create a sustainable source that will live up to the DNH promise of environmental responsibility. The finish optimizes silver’s natural antimicrobial and anti odor properties at the microscopic level to fight off harmful infections. To find out more about the SmartSilver finish. Click HERE.

Scrubs & Beyond was the first to bring you the Do No Harm line and continues to carry the fashion forward ladies styles.

The debate will continue regarding uniform scrubs and the spread of germs. But, rest assured, Scrubs & Beyond will continue to bring you uniforms to that not only look great, but offer technologically advanced features important in today’s workplace! Stay safe Scrubinistas!

Go Green for Earth Day & Beyond in Eco-Friendly Scrubs!

Thursday, April 15th, 2010 BY Celia

Celia-HHappy Earth Week to you!  Earth Week 2010 starts on Monday April 19 (and goes through Friday April 23) which means it’s your chance to celebrate the ways you help keep our planet clean and green!  Don’t worry if your “carbon footprint” has been a little bit larger than others…Earth Week is a time for all of us to discover how we can do better year-round!

First, if you’re wondering what is a “carbon footprint”, you are not alone :) .  Try this in-depth quiz to Find Your Carbon Footprint.  MyFootprint.org did a great job with this quiz, and they also have helpful tips scattered throughout their site.

Or maybe you’ve heard all the news about Going Green, but you’re not sure where to start.  Here are a few easy ways to get started provided by Go Green Money Tips:

√ Install energy efficient, compact fluorescent light bulbs:  These light bulbs are actually a tad more expensive than the regular ones, but they’ll outlast them by up to 20 times

√ Turn the thermostat down:  Take it down a couple degrees, especially during cool Spring and Summer nights.  Windows and fans use little to no energy and give you the same level of cool, plus everyone could use a little more fresh air!

√ Wash clothes in cold water:  This is recommended for most of your clothing anyway. Why waste the hot water? Less chance of shrinkage and damage, and cuts down the hot water bill.

√ Cruise your way to savings:  When you’re on the highway, set your vehicle to cruise control close to the speed limit. You’ll save money by using less gas and the environment will love you for cutting back on the toxins that your car is spitting out.

√ Lighten up…your car!  Unload an weight in the vehicle that you don’t need. For every 100 pounds you reduce, you will significantly save on fuel mileage.

√ Use a reusable mug for your morning cup of coffee, and take a few minutes to make it at home!  The first thing you should do is start drinking your coffee out of a reusable mug. Typically, coffee shops will give you discount on the price of your coffee if they aren’t using one of their take-out cups. But if you have an extra 5-7 minutes, why not brew your own coffee? You’ll save even more money now that you’re not buying it one cup at a time from the local coffee shop.

And of course, the best way to show your Green lifestyle is in Eco-friendly medical scrubs!  Scrubs have gone Green with wonderful fabrics and bold colors in chic styles.  Try any of these eco-friendly scrubs that are sure to make you and Planet Earth very happy:

Yes, it’s true:  Medical Scrubs Go Green for the Environment!!

Are there special ways that you Go Green at home or at work?  Strike up a conversation with someone and share your knowledge…the best way to start awareness is to spread awareness!  Have a happy and safe Earth Day, Earth Week and Beyond!  Until next time…

We’re Debuting dNh Do No Harm™-The World’s Most Responsible Antimicrobial Scrubs!

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010 BY Emma

 Emma-H

“Did you remember to wash your hands?”  A question parents ask their children everyday. I know I did! With deadly bacteria all around us, we want to be sure we teach our children the importance of washing hands to keep them as germ free and healthy as possible. We also want to pass to our children a sense of responsibility in taking care of our planet. We do this by teaching them to pick up trash, recycle, and waste as little as possible.  dNh Do No Harm™ took both of these things to heart, and in doing so show us how they care about the environment, patients you care for every day, and you & your family. Do No Harm dNh antimicrobial scrubs are both antimicrobial and eco-friendly! dNh Do No Harm combines Smartsilver™ nanotechnology that doesn’t wash out and doesn’t wear off, Repreve®  yarn made from recycled materials, and organic cotton. What better way to teach our children than to lead by example and support responsible, sustainable fashion with a purpose?

Trend of the week:
Chic Responsibility

-Smartsilver™ is a natural antimicrobial. Bacteria can’t survive in the presence of the silver ions released from the surface of silver molecules.  These ions are harmless to people, but inhibits the growth of bacteria. This protects you, your patients, and your family against the spread of dangerous bacteria. Smartsilver™ doesn’t get diluted or neutralized by sweat or non-chlorinated detergents. It keeps working for as long as your scrubs exist.
- Repreve® is an incredibly soft yarn that creates true eco-friendly medical scrubs. Repreve® diverts waste, in the form of soda bottles, from the landfill and also uses scraps from bottle manufacturing. Each medical scrub’s top and bottom equates to an approximate ten water bottles that otherwise would be found in landfills today while also conserving the equivalent of half a gallon of gasoline. Repreve®  yarn is considered one of the most earth-friendly fabric ingredients in the world- something to really be proud of!

dNh Do No Harm™ antimicrobial scrubs are extremely innovative and are designed to meet the active, every day demands of healthcare professionals like yourself. With SmartSilver™ antimicrobial, you can trust that your scrubs are protected against bacteria growth for as long as you own them. The fabric used benefits you with anti-odor performance, and moisture wicking properties. dNh Do No Harm™ also included details like deep reinforced pockets and double needle seams for durable wash & wear performance. Beautiful details, incredibly soft fabric, and quality construction mean a comfortable, fashionable wardrobe that last!
