Beat the Heat – 3 Ways to Cool Down!
The weather outside is frightful: Temperatures around the country are hitting the high 90s and even triple-digits in some places, yikes!
It’s definitely time to get relief from the sweltering heat. Check out these tips below that should help you find ways to Cool Down:
Clothing: Yes, you may have to wear scrubs to work, but this does not mean you must be bogged down with heavire fabrics. Opt for scrubs with a higher cotton content. And when you’re wearing your “civies”, be sure to protect your skin if you’re going sleeveless or will be outside for a long period of time.
Water: Stay Hydrated! Nothing beats H2O when it comes to replenishing the body’s thirst. Carry a bottle of water with you, if you can, and avoid sugary beverages that may cause temporary relief.
Stay Indoors: Take this opportunity to take yourself and the family out on mini-stay-cations. Visit your local musuems, attractions, and other indoor points-of-interest (then go out for ice cream afterwards).
Also, make sure you check on your loved ones, children, and the elderly during those extra hot days. Be cool and safe out there!

It’s Friday the 13th – Are you superstitious?
Get our your lucky charms, Scrubinistas: Today is Friday the 13th! But don’t panic – this is the only “Friday the 13th” of 2011, so you can rest easy after the day is done.
What’s all the fuss about Friday the 13th anyway? According to the Internet, the most common definition for this freaky freak out is that Friday was considered the most unlucky day of the week, and Thirteen was considered the most unlucky number. When you put them together, well, it’s a-whole-bunch of unluckiness wrapped up into one unlucky package. Most people I know aren’t very superstitious, unless it happens to be Friday the 13th. Below are some of the most common and interesting superstitions I’ve heard:
- Most hospitals and hotels don’t have a Room 13.
- Most airplanes skip the 13th aisle.
- Many cities change the name of what would otherwise be “13th Street”.
- It’s considered ‘bad luck’ to cut your fingernails on the weekend.
- If your nose itches, someone is coming to see you. If your ears itch, someone is talking about you.
- It’s considered ‘bad luck’ to walk under an open ladder.
- It’s considered ‘good luck’ to find a horseshoe, especially if the open end is pointed towards you when you walk towards it.
- Knocking on wood reverses ‘bad luck’.
